Apart from the beauty of the Tanah Lot sunset, the temple’s location in the middle of the beach creates a unique and distinctive impression. This sacred site stands on a large rock formation surrounded by the Indian Ocean.
During high tide, the temple appears to float in the middle of the sea. In the late afternoon, Tanah Lot Temple becomes the foreground of a stunning silhouette view set against the backdrop of the sunset. The uniqueness of the sacred site's location, along with the breathtaking sunset view, never fails to captivate visitors.
At the Tanah Lot tourist area, there are not only one but two temples situated in the sea. One is located on a rock formation offshore, and the other stands on a cliff, similar to Uluwatu Temple. Uniquely, this cliff has a natural hole that goes through both sides, resembling Broken Beach in Nusa Penida. The temple on the cliff is called Pura Batu Bolong Tanah Lot.
